Closing Statement

Throughout this project there have been some ups and a lot of down, many struggles that we have overcome to get to our end result of a good music video. My team and I spent a lot of time working through intricate details so that our video could be the best it could be. I am happy to say that the work throughout this year has really paid off and really improved major skills that I will use in future careers.

(Evaluation) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Planning and Research – Throughout this stage stage of the whole project i used an online software called prezi which allowed me to display the different types of plans i was going to make throughout, it also allowed me to display the research i had discovered from watching other videos and analysing them. This makes my blog look as though i have used different types of technologies and isnt just a simple blog post, which can seem too simplistic at times. I also used a online software called Animoto which allows you to put in pictures on a constructed video they create with music in the background. This gives my blog a new feel and presents more technical programmes which gives my blog more life. For the research side of my project i used a Flipcam to record my a shot of my Target Audience, we then put this video onto Adobe Premier Pro and added text around the video to show the characteristics of our Target audience. This again makes my blog stand out as it is not a standard post. 

Construction -  For the construction side of my project Adobe Premier Pro was used heavily to create the music video using the footage we recorded on DSLR and mobile phones (to have the home filmed effect). The programme allowed us to cut and transform the footage we had into a sequence that blended all together. We had a lot of short bits of film that still got cut down to 1 or 2 second shots. We had a few members as part of the band and due to their schedules it was hard to get them all in one place at one time so when we went to London to shoot, if we missed something out then it was almost impossible to get them all together again. This meant we didn't have many shots of them all together as a band and as such we took stills from the footage we had of them and used this in the video. Premier Pro let us split the screen so we could put still images of them next to each other on one screen. 

Ancillary Tasks - For both magazine advertisement i used both Photoshop and Illustrator to great this. I used Illustrator purely for the fonts as it is easier to control them through that, the rest of the magazine was done on Photoshop which allowed me to cut and fade anything needed. It is also a high level of technology that industry use which makes our advertisement look like something made by professionals. For the Digipak we also used Photoshop to create each square, once one was done i would transfer the file into InDesign which i had a template for the Digipak on. This meant that the accuracy of the digipak would be of a higher quality.

The Music Video

The Final Digipac

The Front Cover:
I took a polaroid picture that i found on google, i then opened this in Photoshop and took the images of the boys and places them over the black space on the polaroids. I then used the Eraser tool with a faded edge and erased the edges of the photo so that they looked as though they were originally part of the polaroid. I then merged all the layers together and slightly changed the saturation so that they looked a bit dirty, as this correlates with the theme of "Recollections" the polaroids were left somewhere like a party and got a bit ruined. I then added the the bands name and the the title of their album over the top.

Inside left:
For this page, i then did the same things for the polaroids as i did with the front cover and then just scattered them across the top and bottom of the page. I then took a lyric from their hit song "Midnight Memories" and then placed it in the middle.

The CD:
For this i took the usual background i was using and made the CD frame. Then placed the band name and the album name. Then placed it the same way it is placed on the front cover. After this for a personalized feel i added the boys signatures.

Inside Right:
Again i took the background i have been using and then placed a faded white circle where the CD would lie on top. I then put the band name and album name. Then added a kiss mark that i had found on google images, i then placed it underneath the album name, making sure that all these details were underneath the faded circle.

Extra Panel:
For this i decided to make a "Thank You" page from the boys. There are personalized messages from each of them with their signature under each one. Then, again i ended the kiss mark.

Back Cover:
For this i added the album name at the top and then continued to add the title names. The formation of the song titles have some correlation. We start off the album with their single "Midnight Memories" This then leads onto "Telling Me No" which is about the girl who appears in the "Midnight Memories" video, which then leads to "Hearts Bleeding" as the girl has told them no. We then have "Partying with you" They bump into the girl at a party and rekindle their love. However, she gives them the "Wrong Signals" and this leads to the attitude of being "Over It". After being away for a little while, this then goes onto "Guess who's back" and then the songs slow done for "Missed You" and finally, she is his "My Last Love".

Side Panels:
This was pretty straight forward. I used the background i had been using throughout and turned it into the side panel then added the band name and album name.

The Magazine Advertisement

This is our final advertisement, we stuck with out colour scheme throughout and added "Song Music" as the producers of the band and "212 Records" is a record label we have made up that the boys are signed to. I took an image of a poloroid of the internet and places four in the top corners. I then used the stamp tool on photoshop to take the sepia tone of the poloroids' and dragged it down. I got the images of all 4 boys and blurred out the edges and placed on top of the poloroids. i changed the saturation of the poloroids to make them dirty looking. Finally, i added the name of the band and the information of the album.

 I really like this album, i don't think it would work for the boyband album because it works with just one person. I really like the back cover and the way the track list curves around her hair. However, i don't like that she looks so edited, almost cartoon like. 

 I really like that this has the same theme of candy throughout, it's really playful and suggests to me that the theme for an album should consist throughout.

Again, i like the theme that consists throughout this digipak, i should definitely keep the same theme throughout my digipak. I also like that this is all black and white, however, with the conventions of pop this wouldn't work as they use bright colours like Katy Perry's album.

Production Diary

We went up to London to film for a day. We planned to go to the London eye, Trafalgar Square and Southbank, we only came across one fault regarding this. When we got to Trafalgar Square half of it was cut off around the Lions as they had Chinese New Year celebrations previous to when we went. We worked with the space around us and you can still tell that we are in Trafalgar Square as you can see the National Portrait Museum.

Advert Ideas

Really like this advertisement, they have kept it simple with black, white and red, they have all the dates for her tour with all the information you need plus the company, MTV, who is representing her.

I really like this advertisement for Plan B because it has an old school feel to it, this portrays him to be really serious about his music but also shows the kind of music he will be singing.

I really like how this has a main image but then has the album cover at the bottom which advertises the actual album look. I also like how the text that is used for the album is also the same as the advertisement.

Student Digipak Evaluation

I like the theme throughout this digipak, reminds me of Autumn. I particularly like the CD, the leaf and the writing over the top works really well. From the text type and album cover i assume the music would have a Indie vibe to it. The back cover is really good, however, i feel that it is too overpowering of the tracklist. So it draws you away from the actual information. Although the images are really nice, you don't get a feel of a personal touch from the artist them self.

This is an album advertisement for a magazine from a student in 2012, they have kept it quite simple and haven't given anything away by not including their man musician on the front cover, this could be some what a down fall or means that the artist is well established. I like the simplicity of the advert, but it feels as though it was done by someone who does A Level rather then being something of a professional standard. In the background of the image one of the fences is really bent which draws my eye to it as the others are straight, this directly takes me away from what the advert should be about. However, the image of the sunset is really nice in itself, but not for a advertisement.

Casting

With our casting, we had a few difficulties as people kept becoming unavailable at the last minute, however we finally managed to select some people, who were best suited for the roles


The first boy we selected was Grant. We chose him because he has a stereotypical look that can be assosiated with boybands. He also has a certain confidence about him that we believed would help make it seem as if he really was close to all the other band members.


The second boy we selected was Harvie. He also has a stereotypical look that a boyband member would have. He is less confident but is confident when it comes to singing and thus is helpful when it comes to lipsyncing


The 3rd boy we selected was Euloge. He was chosen because he adds diversity to the group, and is very confident and will do the silly things we ask for our boyband shoot. He will have no problems interacting with others and getting out of his comfort zone.


The fourth and boy we selected was Daryl. He also adds diversity to the group and is also very confident. He may take some time to get used to the others but once he relaxes will blend very well with the others.


The fifth and final boy chosen was Reece. He has a stereotypical boyband look and has a 'Cute' look allowing different personalities within the band to be portrayed, as often found with in boybands; each boy has a different 'character' and a different personality trait to be displayed.


The boys were also selected with careful consideration going into how well they look together as well as seperatley as it is no good picking boys who look well on their own, but do not look like they could even be friends let alone in a band together.

We are planning to go up to London one Saturday to film the main part of our video. However, as the British weather is so unpredictable if it rains we need to think of something different to work with it. If it does rain then we will buy umbrella and do a similar thing to how the opening of Friends is, whereby they mess around with open umbrellas. Also if for some reason we cannot get to a location we need, we shall go to other iconic places in London, such as Oxford street and Victoria Station.

Crew Requirements
